Antoni and Anna House

LOCATION

Matadepera, Barcelona province

DESCRIPTION

2003

This house has the distinguishing trait, unlike any other house project that we have done, of being designed at a distance, using the means of communication available at the time. The clients lived at that moment in South America, which meant that there was very little direct contact but a lot of information sent back and forth. Starting from an initial in-person conversation with the owner, we looked for a property and made an initial sketch of the future project. From that moment we decided on a very detailed functional program, and agreed to it with the owner long-distance.

The property, like almost all of those in the high terrain area of Matadepera, is highly conditioned by its topography, but on the other hand has good orientation and beautiful views. Given its width, we were able to design and build a house that is large enough to fit a lower level opening out onto the lot and garden, where we put everything necessary for daily use on one level. On the upper floor there are other sections destined for use by children or guests, with a common studio. All of the parts of the house have the same orientation and the same view, open to the property and closed on the street side. There is, however, cross ventilation and a connecting space between the two facades.

The house exhibits a constructive solution, applying simple materials that provide a reasonable economic cost of construction, while enjoying great esthetic and archtectural quality.
